Michael Nighswonger

Michael Nighswonger is a Los Angeles native now making his home in North Carolina. With no formal training, Michael’s art is truly an expression of himself, filtered only through self-taught techniques. His works are abstractions on a grand scale, both in size and in power. Expressionism, Abstract Expressionism, and even traditional Japanese techniques are obvious influences, but Michael prefers that the viewer approach each piece with an open mind. The paintings are expressions of Michael’s creativity, but they are also reflections of the viewer’s own tastes and experiences. What you see, what you feel, what you get out of each painting – that is what each painting means.

Michael’s paintings are owned by professional athletes and numerous private collectors. His pieces also feature in public spaces and corporate collections around the country. Most recently, several of his large canvases became part of the permanent collection at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, home of the New Jersey Devils hockey team.
